I finally took action this year and put a Family Picture Day on my spring calendar. Family Picture Day is a way to group mini sessions into a single place and time, which means I get to drive less and charge less too… double win! It has become a popular option in the fall when the weather turns cool and our thoughts turn, often in a panic, towards updating family photos for holiday cards. But what about spring in all her beauty? Why do we always wait? Its time to add more seasons to the FPD tradition because there’s unique beauty to be found here in the DC area all year round.
If you haven’t been to Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria, VA… well I hadn’t either until a landscape architect friend made the suggestion. Its a gorgeous garden for a stroll whether you want to walk along flowering paths or around the lakes. Cold and rainy weather split our originally scheduled day into two separate Sunday events exactly one week apart. The delay offered an unexpected opportunity: the azaleas and tulips in bloom the first Sunday gave way to alliums, peonies and a field of buttercups by the second. I imagine that on any given weekend during spring the gardens could seem like an entirely different place between light and blooms.
I greatly enjoyed meeting these fantastic new families who were willing to run, play, swing and then break to make a wish or smell the flowers. Give a shout if you would like to know more about upcoming FPD opportunities. In the words of House Worthington, “Summer is Coming…”
