Look who’s one! And to celebrate, Liz’s family came to town for a weekend of beach balls, photos, cupcakes and sparklers.
What’s up with the beach balls? These will play prominently at Maya’s first birthday party this weekend, a celebration of “just rolling with it”, if you will. While first birthday parties appear to be for the baby wearing the hat and smashing the cake, its actually a celebration for the parents. Its a day to high five your nearest and say, we made it : we survived unimaginable exhaustion, learned what it really means to be selfless, mastered the greatest juggling act known to humankind and have been rewarded with the greatest love there is. One year later its a whole new life: one enriched one hundred fold through the course of one incredibly fast year.
I knew I could count on the Pierson boys to ham it up with their sis on the playground, this wasn’t prompted in any way by me:
If you didn’t know the context, wouldn’t Maya look like the strongest baby on the planet? Bam Bam’s soul mate, perhaps…
Mommy knit this adorable sweater paired so adorably with matching cowgirl boots. Hmmm, how do you think Liz and I met?
We took turns getting shots with Maya and her three uncles and grandmother. By the time it was Rob’s turn, Maya was a little over it, hence one of my favorite shots of the day.
Maya didn’t have much interest in either wearing the pink party hat or eating the cupcake but give her some time, she will acknowledge the gift of cake soon enough. It was still a nice photo op, such a sweet shared moment:
And what’s a party without sparklers?
Many thanks to Liz and Greg for inviting me to get the family fun on film. Here’s a slideshow and there’s even more family photos in the gallery that I couldn’t squeeze in! Congrats to you both on this first year. You are amazing parents to one amazing little girl.
